Introducing…Patricia N. Kostial, R.N., B.S.N.
Patricia N. Kostial, RN, BSN is Nurse Manager at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders in La Jolla, CA. She has close to 25 years of nursing experience specifically in the care of patients with spinal disorders as well as with teaching other medical professionals in the spine field.
Patricia excelled in her nursing training, graduating cum laude for her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Saint Louis University School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri.
Pat is an Associate Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society (the most distinguished professional society for spinal deformity specialists)of which she had served as an Ad Hoc Member on the Patient Education Committee (2005-2007). She is also a member of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses and a past member and officer of Spine Research Associates.
In addition to her clinical work, Pat has had extensive involvement in various FDA and medical device investigational projects. Pat served as Coordinator of the Isola Study Group, the Coordinator of the Growing Spine Study Group and the San Diego program of the Scoliosis Research Society 2002 and 2004 International Traveling Fellowship. She has also been a program reviewer for the prestigious NASS Annual Meeting. She has also served as Coordinator for the San Diego City Wide Spine Conferences from 2003 to 2009.
Pat’s research interests have led her to co-author well over 20 research presentations and three published abstracts and 1 published paper. In addition, Pat has presented more than 50 lectures on spine topics to nursing professionals. Most recently, Pat was lead author of the chapter on Nursing Care for the newly released textbook titled "The Growing Spine: Management of Spinal Disorders in Young Children".
In her spare time, Pat serves as Administrator for both the San Diego Spine Foundation and the Growing Spine Foundation.
Despite her varied activities and responsibilities as Office Manager of the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders, Pat still derives her greatest satisfaction from personally assisting patients through their treatment process.
Pat lives with her husband Michael in Oceanside. They have 7 grandchildren and enjoy fitness as a way to balance their busy lives.
